Four ways to wreck a sound

Drive

Distortion and compression, together

The main knob is doing two jobs at once — saturation into compression — so pushing it does what you actually wanted, which is for the sound to get bigger rather than just louder.

The FUZZ pad sets the character of the distortion, from a gentle top-end lift on an 808 to something with no clean signal left in it at all.

Disperser

Smear a transient into a sweep

Dispersion spreads the attack across frequency, turning a kick into a pitched descending tail. Small amounts tighten a low end; large amounts are how a hardstyle kick gets its whole shape.

Freq shift

Move every partial off the grid

Not pitch shifting — shifting. The harmonics stop being multiples of each other, so a bass turns metallic and a vocal turns into something that was never recorded by a person.

Transient

Put the punch back

Everything above this point costs you attack. The transient shaper hands it back independently of level, which is what keeps a heavily driven kick hitting the limiter instead of leaning on it.

An eight-band EQ and a TIGHT control sit alongside it in the advanced panel for the last of the shaping.
